को आधारमा
On the Basis of
को आधारमा names the facts or rule that a decision stands on.
How It Works
This two-word postposition names the base for a decision or a plan. The noun takes को (का with a plural or a general noun), and आधारमा is a separate word.
| Noun | With को आधारमा |
|---|---|
| प्रमाण | प्रमाणको आधारमा |
| अनुभव | अनुभवको आधारमा |
| योग्यता | योग्यताको आधारमा |
The sentence goes on with the decision or action: योग्यताको आधारमा उनलाई छानियो (she was chosen on the basis of merit). A passive verb is common because the focus is on the decision, not the person.
In speech you can say something simpler, such as प्रमाण थियो, त्यसैले अदालतले निर्णय गर्यो (there was evidence, so the court decided). Use को आधारमा for reports, judgments and formal reasons.
