कति
Asking How Much or How Many
कति means how much or how many.
How It Works
कति covers both how much and how many. When it counts a noun, it sits right before it.
| Question | Counts |
|---|---|
| तिमीसँग कति पैसा छ? | money |
| यहाँ कति मानिस छन्? | people |
| तपाईं कति दिन बस्नुहुन्छ? | days |
| तपाईंलाई कति चिया चाहिन्छ? | an amount |
For counting people, say कति जना: तपाईंको घरमा कति जना छन्? For counting objects, say कतिवटा (written as one word): तिमीसँग कतिवटा किताब छन्?
The verb follows the thing counted. A word such as पैसा is singular and takes छ. कति मानिस asks about more than one person, so the verb is usually the plural छन्.
In a shop, कति also asks the price: यो कति हो? and यो कति पर्छ? both ask how much this is. A separate entry covers prices.
