कति पर्छ

Asking the Price

Level 1Sounds Like kati parcha

पर्नु also says what something costs.

How It Works

The verb पर्नु has many meanings. With an amount of money, it means to cost.

QuestionAnswer
यो कति पर्छ?यो दस रुपैयाँ पर्छ।
एक गिलास दूध कति पर्छ?एक गिलास दूध दस रुपैयाँ पर्छ।
एउटा केरा कति पर्छ?एउटा केरा सात रुपैयाँ पर्छ।

The price is a number plus रुपैयाँ. Learners often hear a shorter question, यो कति हो?, and it is just as natural in a shop. Use whichever you hear.

The verb पर्छ is the plain present and does not change for a polite request. In a shop, you can say दाइ, यो कति पर्छ? to a man behind the counter, because the family word already makes it polite.

Write the spelling रुपैयाँ with the chandrabindu at the end. Larger numbers such as सय (hundred) and हजार (thousand) come at Level 2.
