एक / दुई / तीन
Numbers from One to Ten
Ten number words cover the counting you need first.
How It Works
Here are the numbers from one to ten.
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| एक | दुई | तीन | चार | पाँच |
| 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| छ | सात | आठ | नौ | दस |
The number goes before the noun: पाँच रुपैयाँ (five rupees), तीन कोठा (three rooms). A noun after a number usually stays singular.
छ means six, and it also means is. In छवटा the छ is the number, because वटा joins it. In मसँग छवटा किताब छन् the verb is छन्.
For people and things, use the counting words जना and वटा: चार जना, पाँचवटा. For amounts, use a measuring word: दुई कप चिया.
The standard word for ten is दस. You may also hear दश, which is a valid variant.
