कप / गिलास / किलो
Cups, Glasses and Kilos
Measuring words sit between the number and the thing being measured.
How It Works
To order or buy something by amount, name the amount first.
| Measure | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| कप | एक कप चिया | a cup of tea |
| गिलास | दुई गिलास पानी | two glasses of water |
| किलो | तीन किलो चामल | three kilos of rice |
English uses of between the measure and the thing. Nepali uses nothing. The words simply follow each other.
The measuring word stays the same when the number grows. Say दुई कप चिया, not दुई कपहरू चिया.
Use कति to ask how much: कति किलो? means how many kilos? You will hear it at the market and in a tea shop.
