-लाक बाद

After Doing Something

Level 3Sounds Like lāka bāda

-लाक बाद means "after doing".

How It Works

The pattern: past stem (ending in -ल) + -ाक + बाद.

VerbPhrase
करबकएलाक बाद
खाएबखएलाक बाद
पढ़बपढ़लाक बाद
आएबअएलाक बाद

It uses the same stems as the simple past, so the stem changes are the same: कएल-, खएल-, अएल-.

With nouns, use -क बाद: भोजनक बाद (after the meal).

For two actions in a row by the same person, the joining form with कऽ is shorter: काज कऽ कऽ घर गेलहुँ. -लाक बाद is useful when the time gap matters, or when the subjects differ: ओ अएलाक बाद हम बजार गेलहुँ.

The opposite phrase is -बा सँ पहिने (before doing).
