како што
As and Just as
Како што = as, just as: Како што реков, ќе доцнам. (As I said, I will be late.) Направи како што ти кажав. (Do as I told you.)
How It Works
1. Referring to what is known. Како што реков, ќе доцнам. Како што знаете, утре нема настава. (As you know, there are no classes tomorrow.) A comma follows the clause.
2. In the same way. Направи како што ти кажав. Собата беше како што ја оставивме. (The room was just as we had left it.) For extra weight, the main clause can add така: Како што ми покажаа, така постапив. (I did exactly as they showed me.) This pairing pattern is in тогаш кога and онаму каде што.
3. Giving examples. Посетивме градови како што се Охрид и Битола. (We visited towns such as Ohrid and Bitola.) The verb usually agrees with the examples: како што е Охрид for one, како што се Охрид и Битола for more.
Како што or како да? Како што compares with something real, and како да compares with an imagined picture. Направи како што ти кажав means "do as I told you", while како да сум ти кажал means "as if I had told you".
Како alone. Before a noun, plain како is enough: бел како снег (white as snow). See also ист како. Before a clause, the standard link is како што.
