Greetings and Goodbyes
Hello: Здраво (friends), Добро утро (morning), Добар ден (daytime), Добра вечер (evening). Goodbye: Довидување, Пријатно, Чао.
How It Works
Hello: Здраво! (Hi!, friendly), Добро утро! (Good morning!), Добар ден! (Hello!, during the day), Добра вечер! (Good evening!).
Goodbye: Довидување! (Goodbye!), Пријатно! (Goodbye!), Чао! (Bye!, casual), Се гледаме! (See you!). When someone is going to bed, say Добра ноќ! (Good night!).
Пријатно has a second use. Say it to someone who is eating, to wish them a good meal.
Why добар, добро and добра? Ден is masculine, утро is neuter, and вечер and ноќ are feminine, so the adjective changes to match. See adjective agreement.

Common Mistakes
Using добар with a word that is not masculine.
Добар утро!Добро утро!Утро is neuter, so the adjective ends in -о: добро.
Using добар with вечер.
Добар вечер, Марко!Добра вечер, Марко!Вечер is feminine, so the adjective ends in -а: добра.
Using Добра ноќ as a hello when you arrive in the evening.
Добра ноќ! Како сте?Добра вечер! Како сте?Добра ноќ is only for leaving late at night or going to bed. To greet someone in the evening, say Добра вечер.
