Saying Your Name
Се викам Ана. (My name is Ana.) Како се викаш? / Како се викате? (What's your name?) Мило ми е. (Nice to meet you.)
How It Works
The forms: се викам (my name is), се викаш (your name is), се вика (his or her name is), се викаме (our names are), се викате (your name is, polite or plural), се викаат (their names are).
Се comes first: put се right before the verb, even at the start of a sentence: Се викам Марко. Never say викам се. See verbs with се.
Without се, викам means I shout or I call someone, so names always need се.

Nice to meet you: Мило ми е, or Драго ми е. Use Како се викате? with adults you do not know; see informal and polite you.

Common Mistakes
Leaving out се.
Викам Ана.Се викам Ана.Without се, викам means I call or I shout. To say your name, you need се викам.
Putting се after the verb.
Викам се Ана.Се викам Ана.With a verb like викам, се goes right before it, even at the very start of a sentence.
Using the friendly question with someone you address formally.
Како се викаш, господине?Како се викате, господине?Господине shows you are being polite, so the verb needs the polite ending -те.
