Official Noun Style
Official Georgian often says an action as a verbal noun plus a helper verb: გადაწყვეტილება მიიღო (made a decision).
How It Works
News, reports and official letters often say an action as a noun plus a helper verb:
| Official phrase | Meaning | Everyday verb |
|---|---|---|
| გადაწყვეტილება მიიღო | made a decision | გადაწყვიტა (decided) |
| მონაწილეობა მიიღო | took part | მონაწილეობდა (took part) |
| დახმარება გაუწია | provided help | დაეხმარა (helped) |
| ხელშეკრულება გააფორმა | concluded an agreement | ხელი მოაწერა (signed) |
The noun is the object of the helper verb, so it takes the usual cases: in the past it is nominative (კომისიამ გადაწყვეტილება მიიღო), and in the present it is dative (კომისია გადაწყვეტილებას იღებს).
Headings and agendas turn the whole action into nouns, with the object in the genitive: გადაწყვეტილების მიღება (making a decision), ხელშეკრულების გაფორმება (signing an agreement). These chains can get long, so read them from the end: the last word is the action.
In your own writing, use the simple verb unless the text must sound official.
