ის ..., ვინც
Pointing Ahead to a Clause
A pointing word in the main clause, like ის, იქ or მაშინ, can point ahead to a clause with a -ც word.
How It Works
| Pointing word | -ც word | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ის (that, the one) | ვინც | ის, ვინც პირველი მოვა (the one who comes first) |
| ის | რაც | ის, რაც თქვი (what you said) |
| იქ (there) | სადაც | იქ, სადაც ვცხოვრობ (there, where I live) |
| მაშინ (then) | როცა | მაშინ, როცა სახლში მივალ (when I get home) |
| ისე (so) | როგორც | ისე, როგორც გინდა (the way you want) |
In მას, ვინც პირველი მოვა, საჩუქარს მივცემ (I'll give a present to whoever comes first), მას is dative because მივცემ (I'll give) needs a dative receiver. ვინც is nominative because მოვა (will come) is a becoming verb.
The pointing word makes the clause stand out, and sometimes it is what shows the case: here, მას shows who gets the present.
ყველა (everyone) and ყველაფერი (everything) work the same way: მადლობა ყველას, ვინც დაგვეხმარა (thanks to everyone who helped us).
