ასე/ისე
Like This and Like That
ასე means like this or so, and ისე means like that.
How It Works
These two words answer როგორ? (how?). They work like the pointing words ეს and ის:
| Pointing word | Way |
|---|---|
| ეს (this) | ასე (like this, so) |
| ის (that) | ისე (like that) |
Use ასე when you show how something is done right now: ხაჭაპურს ასე ვაკეთებ (I make khachapuri like this). Use ისე for a way that is not the one you are showing: ისე არა, ასე! (Not like that, like this!)
ასე also means so in short answers:
- ასე ვფიქრობ. (I think so.)
- ეს ასე არ არის. (That's not so.)
Before an adverb it means so: რატომ ლაპარაკობ ასე ჩქარა? (Why are you talking so fast?)
For such before a noun, Georgian uses another pair, ასეთი and ისეთი. You will learn those later.
Examples (4)

ასე: like this.
- ეს ასე არ არის.

- ისე არა, ასე!
