ამ/მაგ/იმ + Noun
This and That in Other Cases
Before a noun in any case but the nominative, ეს, ეგ and ის become ამ, მაგ and იმ.
How It Works
| Case | this | that (near you) | that (over there) |
|---|---|---|---|
| nominative | ეს სახლი | ეგ სახლი | ის სახლი |
| dative | ამ სახლს | მაგ სახლს | იმ სახლს |
| with -ში | ამ სახლში | მაგ სახლში | იმ სახლში |
| genitive | ამ სახლის | მაგ სახლის | იმ სახლის |
The genitive uses the short form too: ამ ქალაქის (of this city). Adjectives are different there: დიდი ქალაქის.
When the word stands alone, with no noun after it, it has full forms: ამას ვყიდულობ (I'm buying this). You will learn those at Level 3.
The same short forms go before a plural noun: ამ სახლებში (in these houses).
