One Word for He and She
Georgian has no he or she: ის covers both, and nouns have no gender.
How It Works
English marks gender in pronouns: he, she, his, her. Georgian does not. ის ექიმი არის can mean he is a doctor or she is a doctor, and a name or the context tells you which.
Nothing else changes either. Adjectives keep one form: ლამაზი ქალი (a beautiful woman), ლამაზი სახლი (a beautiful house). Verbs have no gender endings, and job words fit everyone: მასწავლებელი is a teacher, man or woman.
Some pairs of words name men and women, as in English:
| Man | Woman |
|---|---|
| კაცი (man) | ქალი (woman) |
| მამა (father) | დედა (mother) |
| ძმა (brother) | და (sister) |
| ბიჭი (boy) | გოგო (girl) |
To make it clear, use a name or a word like კაცი or ქალი.
