ეს/ეგ/ის
This and That
ეს, ეგ and ის point to things near me, near you and away from both of us.
How It Works
| Word | Where it is | Example |
|---|---|---|
| ეს | near me, the speaker | ეს ჩემი სახლი არის. |
| ეგ | near you, the listener | ეგ შენი წიგნი არის? |
| ის | away from both of us | ის კაცი ჩემი მამა არის. |
ეგ is handy: when your friend is holding a cup, you can ask ეგ რა არის? (What is that in your hand?)
ის also means he, she or it. Before a noun it means that, and on its own it is a pronoun: ის ექიმი არის (he or she is a doctor).
These words change form in other cases, as in ამ სახლში (in this house). You will learn those forms at Level 2.
