tro / sufiĉe + Adjective + por + Infinitive
Too ... to, Enough ... to
Tro or sufiĉe says how much, and por with an infinitive names the action.
How It Works
| Pattern | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| tro + adjective + por + infinitive | tro malproksima por iri piede | too far to walk |
| sufiĉe + adjective + por + infinitive | sufiĉe forta por porti ĝin | strong enough to carry it |
| ne sufiĉe + adjective + por + infinitive | ne sufiĉe aĝa por veturi sola | not old enough to travel alone |
The infinitive names the action for which the quality is too much, or enough. The one who acts may be the subject (Ŝi estas sufiĉe forta por porti ĝin) or simply anyone (La supo estas tro varma por manĝi). To name a different doer, a clause with por ke can follow: La valizo estas tro peza, por ke Ana povu porti ĝin.
Do not mix up sufiĉe with sufiĉa. The adjective sufiĉa describes a noun: sufiĉa tempo (enough time).
