For
Por means for.
How It Works
| Say | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Mi aĉetas donacon por mia fratino. | I buy a gift for my sister. |
| Tiu libro estas por vi. | That book is for you. |
| Ĉu vi havas tempon por mi? | Do you have time for me? |
Por shows the aim: a gift for someone, a room for guests, time for a talk. It names who something is intended for, even if it does not arrive.
Compare al, which names who actually receives something. Mi aĉetas donacon por Ana says that the gift is meant for Ana. Mi donas donacon al Ana says that she gets it.
The noun after por keeps its plain form: por mia fratino, por vi.
