kiel
Kiel: As and Like
Kiel before a noun shows a role or a likeness.
How It Works
| Meaning | Example |
|---|---|
| in the role of | Mi laboras kiel instruisto. |
| similar to | Ŝi kantas kiel birdo. |
| as an object | Mi rigardas vin kiel amikon. |
The noun after kiel follows the word it goes with. In Mi laboras kiel instruisto, instruisto goes with the subject mi, so it has no ending. In Mi rigardas vin kiel amikon, amikon goes with the object vin, so it has -n.
The word kiel also asks how and sits in the comparison tiel ... kiel. Here it is a small word before a noun, and it needs no tiel.
