sama / alia

Same and Other

Level 3

Sama joins two things that match, and alia sets one apart.

How It Works

WordExampleMeaning
sama ... kiella sama libro kiel miathe same book as mine
alia ... olalia urbo ol Berlinoa different city from Berlin
aliaalia tagoanother day
la aliajla aliaj gastojthe other guests

The word sama often has la before it: la sama libro. Add kiel to tell what it matches. Alia means not the same: alia libro is a different book, and the comparison uses ol.

La aliaj stands for the other ones, without a noun: Ana venis, kaj la aliaj ankoraŭ ne.
