While Something Was Going on
At the end of a sentence, နေတုန်းပဲ means "still": သူ အိပ်နေတုန်းပဲ။ (He's still asleep.)
How It Works
နေ marks an action that is going on, and တုန်း means "during". Together they set the scene for something else that happens in the middle.
| Scene with နေတုန်း | What happened | English |
|---|---|---|
The power went out while I was in the shower. |
It started to rain while I was driving. |
The two parts can have different people in them: (Mum went to the market while the children were asleep).
Keep the order Burmese uses. The scene with နေတုန်း comes first and the main event comes last, even though English often puts "while" second.
With ပဲ at the end of a sentence, နေတုန်း means the action still goes on: မိုးရွာနေတုန်းပဲ (It's still raining).
When one person does two things at the same time on purpose, use
