တဲ့အခါ
When Something Happens
Add တိုင်း for "every time": မိုးရွာတဲ့အခါတိုင်း.
How It Works
တဲ့အခါ is built from two words you know: တဲ့ describes a noun, and အခါ means "time". So ရောက်တဲ့အခါ is "the time you arrive".
| When… | Then… | English |
|---|---|---|
| ရန်ကုန်ရောက်တဲ့အခါ | ဖုန်းဆက်ပါ။ | Call me when you get to Yangon. |
| စိတ်ညစ်တဲ့အခါ | သီချင်း နားထောင်တယ်။ | When I feel down, I listen to music. |
| အမေ ရောက်လာတဲ့အခါ | ကလေးတွေ ဝမ်းသာသွားတယ်။ | When Mum arrived, the kids were happy. |
It works for all times. The ending of the second clause shows whether you mean the past, a habit or the future.
Add တိုင်း for "every time" (တဲ့အခါတိုင်း) or မှာ for a little weight (တဲ့အခါမှာ).
ရင် also means "when", and it leans toward "if". Use တဲ့အခါ when the event will surely happen. For a long stretch of time in the past, such as childhood, use တုန်းက. Writing uses သောအခါ.
