မယ်
Will and Going to
It also makes quick decisions, as in ဒီတစ်ခု ယူမယ်။ (I'll take this one.)
How It Works
A statement about something that has not happened yet ends with မယ်. It is said meh.
| Use | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| a plan | အင်းလေးကို သွားမယ်။ | I'm going to Inle Lake. |
| a prediction | မိုးရွာမယ်။ | It will rain. |
| a decision | ဒီတစ်ခု ယူမယ်။ | I'll take this one. |
| a promise | လာပါမယ်။ | I'll come. |
The negative drops မယ်: မသွားဘူး။ means I won't go. A question about a plan joins မ with လား or လဲ: သွားမလား။ (Will you go?), ဘယ်သွားမလဲ။ (Where will you go?).
Writing uses မည် in place of မယ်.
Time words such as မနက်ဖြန် (tomorrow) and ညနေ (this evening) go near the start of the sentence, before or after the subject.
