တာနဲ့
As Soon as
It works for the past and the future: ရောက်တာနဲ့ ဖုန်းဆက်မယ်။ (I'll call as soon as I get there.)
How It Works
တာနဲ့ joins two actions with no gap between them. The first one happens, and the second follows at once.
| As soon as… | Then… | English |
|---|---|---|
| အိမ်ရောက်တာနဲ့ | အိပ်ပျော်သွားတယ်။ | I fell asleep as soon as I got home. |
| ရောက်တာနဲ့ | ဖုန်းဆက်မယ်။ | I'll call as soon as I arrive. |
| နိုးတာနဲ့ | ကော်ဖီ သောက်တယ်။ | I drink coffee as soon as I wake up. |
The pieces are the ones you already know: တာ turns the verb into a noun, and နဲ့ means "with". The ending of the second clause sets the time: past, habit or future.
For extra force, add တပြိုင်နက် (at the same moment): ရောက်တာနဲ့ တပြိုင်နက်.
You will also hear တာနဲ့ give a reason: အချိန်မရှိတာနဲ့ မလာဖြစ်ဘူး။ (I didn't have time, so I didn't make it.) When the second action follows right away, it means "as soon as". Writing uses သည်နှင့်.
