गइल as a Helper Verb

Compound Verbs with जाइल

Level 3Sounds Like ga'ila (sahāyaka)

A stem plus a form of जाइल shows a change or a finished event.

How It Works

The helper gives the verb a sense of turning into something or being complete. सुतल is to sleep; सुत गइल is to fall asleep. मानल is to accept; मान गइनी is I gave in.

StemWith गइलSense
सुतसुत गइलfell asleep

फटफट गइलcurdled
अझुराअझुरा गइलीgot tangled

The helper takes the usual past endings: गइनी (हम), गइल (ऊ), गइली (a woman), गइलें (respected man, plural). The main verb stays as the bare stem.

Use it for things that happen to someone, not things they choose to do for someone.
