-वाउब
Getting It Done by Someone: -वाउब
-वाउब means having someone else do the job.
How It Works
The ending -वाउब makes a verb mean "get it done by someone". It is the Awadhi way to order a service: sew, cut, repair, deliver.
| Base | -वाउब form |
|---|---|
| सिलब (be sewn) | सिलवाउब (have sewn) |
| कटब (be cut) | कटवाउब (have cut) |
| माँगब (ask for) | मँगवाउब (have brought) |
| करब (do) | करवाउब (have done) |
The person who actually does the work takes से: ऊ दरजी से कुरता सिलवाइस (she had the tailor sew a kurta). The subject is the one who asks for the job.
The past forms follow the usual rules: सिलवाइस (ऊ), सिलवाएन (हम), सिलवाएव (तुम), सिलवाइन (respect).
Compare with -आउब: पढ़ाउब (teach) makes someone read, and the learner takes का. -वाउब stresses a job done by a helper or a worker, and that person takes से.
