-तै

As Soon as: -तै

Level 4Sounds Like tai

-तै on a verb means as soon as.

How It Works

The ending -तै means "the moment it happens". It is the -त form with an added -ै for weight.

VerbWith -तै
होबहोतै
आउबआवतै
पहुँचबपहुँचतै
सुनबसुनतै

The first action has no tense of its own; the main verb carries it. Examples: फिलिम खतम होतै सब निकलि गए (as soon as the film ended, everyone left).

If the verb has an object, it comes before the -तै form: गाना सुनतै.

Compare -तै with निकलत-निकलत. The doubled -त means "while", and the action goes on at the same time. -तै means "as soon as", and the next action follows at once.
