बहुतै / उहै
Adding Weight with -ै
An -ै at the end of a word adds weight: that very, really.
How It Works
An -ै at the end of a word makes it stronger. It is the Awadhi way to say "really", "exactly" or "just".
| Plain | With -ै |
|---|---|
| बहुत (very) | बहुतै (really very) |
| ऊ (that) | उहै (that very one) |
| ई (this) | इहै (this very one) |
| तब (then), with -हीं | तबहीं (just then) |
Compare the plain बहुत नीक with बहुतै नीक. The second one is warmer and stronger.
Do not confuse this with the -ै of the purpose form (मिलै, करै) or with अहै. Here the -ै is attached to a describing word or a pronoun, and it just stresses it.
If you want a different kind of weight, use तौ (as for, really) after the word. The two can share a sentence: ई फिलिम तौ बहुतै नीक अहै.

अबहीं is अब with -हीं, which adds the same weight to a time word.
