करौ / जाव
Telling a Friend to Do Something
With तुम a command ends in -औ, or in -व after a vowel.
How It Works
| Stem ends in | Ending | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| a consonant | -औ | बइठौ, करौ, देखौ, पढ़ौ |
| a vowel | -व | जाव, खाव, आव, देव |
Use it with friends, colleagues and people about your own age. For close family and children use the bare stem (कर अउर जा). For elders and strangers use -इए.
To say don't, put मत in front: मत जाव. Awadhi writes -औ, not the Hindi -ो.
The ending also tells you how close you are. If you can say हौ to the person, you can say करौ. If you need अहैं and आप, switch to the polite form.
