तनिक
Just a Little: तनिक
तनिक softens a request, or means a little.
How It Works
तनिक has two jobs.
- A little: चाय मा तनिक चीनी देव. It names a small amount.
- A softener: तनिक रुकौ. It makes a request or command kinder and shorter.
| Without | With तनिक |
|---|---|
| रुकौ | तनिक रुकौ |
| सुनौ | तनिक सुनौ तौ |
| पानी देव | हमका तनिक पानी देव |
तनिक does not change for gender, number or person. It sits before what it softens.
It goes well with ना: तनिक रुकौ ना. In one sentence the two stack up and sound very friendly.
तनिक is common in Awadhi, though Hindi speakers use it too. You will also hear थोरी देर (a short while), and Hindi थोड़ा is heard here too.
