कउनो / कछू
Any and Some: कउनो and कछू
कउनो means any or anyone, and कछू means something or anything.
How It Works
Two small words cover "some" and "any".
| Word | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| कउनो | any, anyone | कउनो बात नाहीं। |
| कछू | something, anything | कछू खाव। |
| कछू नाहीं | nothing | कछू नाहीं भवा। |
कउनो comes before a noun (कउनो किताब, any book) or stands alone for "anyone". कछू is the word for a thing: कछू चाही? (do you want something?).
With नाहीं the words turn to "none" and "nothing": घर मा कउनो नाहीं अहै (nobody is home), हमका कछू नाहीं चाही (I don't want anything).
The set phrase कउनो बात नाहीं means "no problem" or "never mind", and it is a polite reply to thanks or an apology.
