Polite Requests with आप

Level 2Sounds Like ba'iṭhi'ē a'ura ā'i'ē

With आप, add -इए to the stem for a polite request.

How It Works

VerbPolite request
बइठबबइठिए
आउबआइए
करबकरिए
खाबखाइए
सुनबसुनिए

Add -इए to the stem. A stem that ends in a vowel keeps the vowel: खा gives खाइए, आ gives आइए.

The same ending is used in Hindi, and it is normal in Lucknow. Eastern speakers may also use the plural आप बइठैं.

A friend you call तुम gets -औ: बइठौ. To someone you call तू, say कर अउर जा.
