चली

Let's: चली

Level 2Sounds Like calī

The हम form ending in -ई means let us.

How It Works

The ending is -ई, added to the stem: चल gives चली, जा gives जाई, देख gives देखी.

  • चलौ, बजार चली. (Come on, let us go to the market.)
  • चलौ, फिलिम देखी. (Come on, let us watch a film.)

You can leave out चलौ: चली, घर चली. Add ना to make it softer: चली ना.

The same shape is also used for a question: हम जाई? means "shall I go?". The sentence tells you which one it is.

It looks like -ई (भविष्य), the future for one other person. The subject separates them: ऊ चली is a plain future, and हम चली is "let us go".
