करै का चाही

Should: करै का चाही

Level 3Sounds Like karai kā cāhī

The -ै form plus का चाही says what someone should do.

How It Works

चाही on its own means "needed": हमका पानी चाही (I need water). With the purpose form of a verb it means "should".

PersonShould
हमकाजाय का चाही
तुमकाआराम करै का चाही
ओकासमय से आवै का चाही
लरिकन काजल्दी उठै का चाही

The person takes का, and the verb takes the -ै form (-य after a vowel: जाय, खाय). The second का is part of the pattern, and चाही never changes.

To say should not, put न before the verb: तुमका उहाँ न जाय का चाही. The pattern can be gentle advice or a firm rule, and the tone comes from the voice.

For "I want you to", use चाहब कि and a short verb form, not this pattern.
