A Polite Request With the Future Form

Level 3Sounds Like manata raākhiba

মনত ৰাখিব! means “please remember!” and ভয় নকৰিব means “please do not be afraid”.

How It Works

The future form can carry a polite request. Which meaning you hear depends on the sentence.

WhoRequestMeaning
আপুনিমনত ৰাখিব!Please remember!
তুমিমনত ৰাখিবাঁ!Remember!
আপুনিভয় নকৰিব।Please do not be afraid.
তুমিচিন্তা নকৰিবাঁ!Do not worry!

For a friend the ending is -িবা, and in a request it is usually written with the nasal mark, -িবাঁ. The plain -িবা is also correct.

The same shape also means “will” in a statement: আপুনি কাইলৈ আহিব “you will come tomorrow”. The words around it show which meaning is meant.

Say what to remember before it: দুৱাৰ বন্ধ কৰিবলৈ মনত ৰাখিব! “remember to close the door!”. The verb before মনত ৰাখিব ends in -বলৈ “in order to”.
