কেনে আছা

How Are You

Level 1Sounds Like kēnē āchā

কেনে আছা? and কেনে আছে? ask “how are you?”. The answer is ভালে আছোঁ.

How It Works

কেনে “how” is followed by a form of আছ “be, stay”. The ending depends on who you ask.

You askQuestionAnswer
a friend, তুমিতুমি কেনে আছা?মই ভালে আছোঁ।
an elder or stranger, আপুনিআপুনি কেনে আছে?মই ভালে আছোঁ।

A full answer uses আছোঁ, because you are speaking about yourself. A short answer can be just ভালেই “fine”. ভালে means “well”. You can drop মই and say only ভালে আছোঁ.

You can also ask a yes-or-no question with নে: তুমি ভালে আছা নে? “Are you well?”.

Keep the address level the same in the whole conversation. If you start with আপুনি, keep আছে.
