নমস্কাৰ / ধন্যবাদ
Hello and Thank You
নমস্কাৰ is a polite hello, and ধন্যবাদ thanks someone.
How It Works
- নমস্কাৰ is a polite hello. It works at any time of day and suits teachers, elders and strangers. Close friends often say হেৰা or হাই instead.
- ধন্যবাদ means “thank you”. It stands alone as a full sentence.
To thank someone more strongly, put বহুত “very” before it: বহুত ধন্যবাদ “thank you very much”.
A greeting often comes with a question about the other person, as in নমস্কাৰ, আপুনি কেনে আছে? “Hello, how are you?”. Use আপুনি with people you do not know well.
Neither word changes for the person you speak to. The verb in the question that follows does change, so match it to the relationship.
