কেনেকৈ / কেনে
How
কেনেকৈ asks “how” and কেনে asks “what like”: তুমি কেনে আছা? “how are you?”.
How It Works
English uses “how” for both. Assamese has two words.
| Word | Asks | Example |
|---|---|---|
| কেনেকৈ | the way something is done | কেনেকৈ কৰোঁ? “How do I do that?” |
| কেনে | what something is like | বতৰ কেনে? “How is the weather?” |
The verb in ইংৰাজীত সেইটো কেনেকৈ কয়? has the আপুনি ending. To a friend you say ইংৰাজীত সেইটো কেনেকৈ কোৱা? with the তুমি ending.
The greeting uses কেনে and the verb আছা or আছে, depending on who you talk to: তুমি কেনে আছা? to a friend and আপুনি কেনে আছে? to someone you respect.
The reply to কেনে আছা? is ভালে আছোঁ। “I am well.”
