Mièg is an adjective that agrees with the noun, and quart and tèrç are nouns followed by de.

How It Works

FractionOccitanExample
a half (adjective)mièg, mièjamièja ora
a half (noun)la mitatla mitat del pan
a thirdun tèrçun tèrç del pan
a quarterun quartun quart d'ora
three quarterstres quartstres quarts d'ora

Mièg and mièja are adjectives, so they agree with the noun: mièja ora (feminine). After a time, the half comes with e: Son tres oras e mièja (It is half past three).

Mièg also stands before a masculine noun: un mièg litre.

La mitat is a feminine noun, and it is followed by de or a contraction: la mitat del pan.

A quarter of an hour is un quart d'ora. For three quarters, the plural is tres quarts.
