Quarters and Half Hours
After the hour, e mièja gives half past, and a quarter is e quart.
How It Works
Say the hour first, then what is added or taken away.
| Time | Occitan |
|---|---|
| 1:15 | una ora e quart (also una ora e un quart) |
| 3:30 | tres oras e mièja |
| 3:45 | quatre oras mens quart (also mens lo quart) |
Mièja is feminine, like ora. To say at a time, put a before the whole phrase: a sièis oras e mièja. Use es with one o'clock and son with the others: Es una ora e quart, Son doas oras e mièja.
Dictionaries and writers also give quatre oras un quart and quatre oras e un quart for 4:15. Learn e mièja first: it is the form the dictionaries and writers confirm most clearly.
