Telling the Time
Es una ora for one o'clock; son doas oras and son tres oras for the other hours.
How It Works
| Time | Occitan |
|---|---|
| 1:00 | Es una ora. |
| 2:00 | Son doas oras. |
| 3:00 | Son tres oras. |
| 4:00 | Son quatre oras. |
| 12:00 | Son dotze oras. |
The verb agrees with the hour: singular es for one o'clock and plural son for the others. Ora is feminine, so it takes una and doas: doas oras, never dos oras. The other numbers do not change.
This pattern gives the time now. To say that something happens at a certain time, ask A quina ora?, which you learn later, together with the quarter and half hours.
