Level 6Sounds Like tathāpi

तथापि means nevertheless: it points out that something is still true after the earlier fact.

How It Works

तथापि is a formal word for nevertheless and in spite of that. It stands at the start of the clause that goes against what was just said.

Writingतथापि

The first part gives an effort, a promise or a change: धेरै प्रयास भएका छन्. The second part, after तथापि, says the result did not follow: नतिजा आएको छैन.

Unlike यद्यपि ... तापनि, तथापि works alone. It does not need a partner in the first clause. You can also start a new sentence with it.

It does not mean therefore, even though it looks like अतः. अतः moves forward to a result, while तथापि pushes back against the earlier idea.
