जसा … तसा
Just as … So
Add -च to the second word to say “exactly like that”: तसेच, तशीच.
How It Works
जसा … तसा compares a way of doing or being. It works like जो … तो, but it asks about manner: how, in what way.
| What the pair describes | Pair |
|---|---|
| a way of doing (manner) | जसे … तसे |
| a masculine noun | जसा … तसा |
| a feminine noun | जशी … तशी |
| several things or people | जसे … तसे (masculine), जशा … तशा (feminine), जशी … तशी (neuter) |
The first clause carries जसा and the second clause carries तसा. Both clauses usually state the verb (a saying like जसा राजा, तशी प्रजा can leave it out), and the word order of each clause stays normal.
Add -च for “exactly so”: जसा तुझा भाऊ आहे, तसाच तू आहेस. The pair also covers “as agreed” and “as planned”: जसे ठरले होते, तसे सगळे झाले.
When the doer of a manner is a person and the noun is the object (जशी पुरणपोळी आजी करते), the pair agrees with that object: तशी.
The two halves can swap places when the result matters more: मी तसे करीन, जसे तू सांगशील. The जसे word still opens its own clause.
