The ending follows the person or thing being described, so a girl is -सारखी and a boy is -सारखा.

How It Works

-सारखा works like an adjective. It matches the noun it describes: masculine -सारखा, feminine -सारखी, neuter -सारखे. The thing you compare with comes before it and takes its ending shape: आई becomes आईसारखी, घर becomes घरासारखे.

The ending matches the person or thing you describe, and the compared word has no say. In ती आईसारखी दिसते, -सारखी matches ती. In तो आईसारखा दिसतो, a boy looks like his mother, and the ending is masculine.

Write -सारखा joined to the noun, with no space. It also works in a negative sentence: त्याच्यासारखा कोणी नाही. (There is nobody like him.) Here the ending is masculine because कोणी takes masculine agreement.

    शहर is neuter, so the ending is -सारखे.
