Level 4Sounds Like ēkamēkānnā

The word never changes for gender, and it joins endings: एकमेकांशी, एकमेकांचे, एकमेकांसाठी.

How It Works

The word needs a group of two or more people, and in the present the verb is plural: मुले एकमेकांना मदत करतात.

MeaningForm
each other (object)एकमेकांना
with each otherएकमेकांशी, एकमेकांबरोबर
for each otherएकमेकांसाठी
each other'sएकमेकांचा / एकमेकांची / एकमेकांचे
to each other's placeएकमेकांकडे

The -चा word agrees with the thing owned: एकमेकांचे हात, एकमेकांची घरे. Before a noun with an ending it takes the oblique shape: मैत्रिणी एकमेकांच्या घरी जातात.

The word often comes with the let's form: आपण एकमेकांना रोज फोन करूया. In the past, a third-person group takes -ने or -नी: मुलांनी एकमेकांना मिठी मारली. Here the verb agrees with मिठी, the plain object. With only एकमेकांना as the object, the verb is neuter: त्यांनी एकमेकांना पाहिले.

Spell it as one word with the anusvara: एकमेकांना.

Any group can be the subject: सई आणि ओंकार एकमेकांना ओळखतात. (Sai and Onkar know each other.) For one person acting on themselves, use स्वतः: ती स्वतःशी बोलते.

The shape एकमेकां- stays the same for men, women and children alike.
