горд на / сличен на

Adjectives with Prepositions

Level 4Sounds Like pridavki so predlozi: gord na; sličen na

Some adjectives take a fixed preposition: Горд сум на тебе. (I'm proud of you.) Многу е сличен на татко си. (He is very much like his father.)

How It Works

Common pairs.

  • на: горд на (proud of), сличен на (similar to), лут на (angry at), љубоморен на (jealous of), навикнат на (used to)
  • за: заинтересиран за (interested in), подготвен за (ready for), одговорен за (responsible for), свесен за (aware of)
  • од: уморен од (tired of, tired from)
  • со: полн со (full of)

Agreement. The adjective matches the person or thing: Горд сум на тебе (a man speaking), Горда сум на тебе (a woman speaking), Горди сме на вас. (We are proud of you.) See adjectives after be.

Before a verb. When a verb follows, use да instead of the preposition: Подготвен сум за патот (ready for the trip), but Подготвен сум да тргнам (ready to leave). Заинтересирана е да учи јапонски. (She is interested in learning Japanese.)

Other choices you may meet. A dictionary example also uses горд со for parents proud of their children's success, but горд на is very common and always safe. Сличен на goes with the verb личи на (look like): Личи на мајка си. For "the same as" and "different from", see same and different.

Pronouns. After the preposition, use a full pronoun: лут на него, горд на тебе.

Common Mistakes

  • Using во for English "interested in".

    Таа е заинтересирана за уметност.

Заинтересиран takes за. The English "in" does not carry over.

  • Using до for English "similar to".

Тој е сличен до татко си.
Тој е сличен на татко си.

До means "up to" or "next to". Сличен takes на, just like the verb личи на.
