се смее / се плаши / се надева
Verbs That Always Take Се
Some verbs come with се built in: Се сеќаваш ли на мене? (Do you remember me?) Learn them together with се.
How It Works
Common verbs.
- се надева — hopes: Се надевам дека е добро.
- се сеќава — remembers: Се сеќаваш ли на мене? Its perfective partner се сети means to remember suddenly: Се сетив!
- се смее — laughs: Зошто се смееш?
- се плаши — is afraid: Се плаши од кучиња.
- се труди — tries hard: Се трудам да зборувам македонски.
- се сомнева — doubts: Се сомневам дека е точно.
Without се, another meaning. A few of these verbs also exist without се, with a different meaning:
- Се смее. (She is laughing.) — Смее да излезе. (She is allowed to go out; see смее да.)
- Се плаши. (He is scared.) — Го плаши детето. (He is scaring the child.)
Do not confuse се смее (laughs) with impersonal не се смее да…, which uses the may verb: Тука не се смее да се пуши. (Smoking is not allowed here.)
Where се goes. Exactly as in се + глагол: се мие: Ќе се трудам. · Сакам да се сеќавам. In a positive command it follows the verb: Смеј се! (Laugh!)
With a person. Се смее takes a to-someone pronoun for the person laughed at: Зошто ми се смееш? (Why are you laughing at me?) Other verbs with fixed prepositions are collected in глаголи со предлози: зависи од; се грижи за.
