оди (go): одам, одиш, оди, одиме, одите, одат

How It Works

1. The endings (model: оди, go)

  • јас одам – I go
  • ти одиш – you go
  • тој / таа оди – he / she goes
  • ние одиме – we go
  • вие одите – you (all) go
  • тие одат – they go

2. Where the и shows
The и appears in одиш, оди, одиме and одите. It does not appear in одам or одат.

3. Common и-verbs
оди (go), работи (work), учи (learn), носи (carry, bring), мисли (think), вели (say).

4. Comparing the three groups

  • читам, читаш, читаат (а-group)
  • јадам, јадеш, јадат (е-group)
  • одам, одиш, одат (и-group)

All three I forms end in -ам. The you form shows the group's vowel: -аш, -еш or -иш.

    The -ите ending fits polite Вие or a group.

  6. Тие носат торта.

    They're bringing a cake.

    The they form ends in -ат, with no и.

Common Mistakes

  • Keeping и in the I form.

    Јас одим.
    Јас одам.

    Apart from сум, every Macedonian present I form ends in -ам, including и-verbs: одам.

  • Using the а-verb they ending.

    Тие одаат.
    Тие одат.

    И-verbs end in -ат in the they form. The ending -аат belongs to а-verbs.

  • Carrying the а of the I form into the we form.

    Ние одаме.
    Ние одиме.

    Only the I and they forms lose the и. The we form keeps it: одиме.
