зависи од / се грижи за
Verbs with Fixed Prepositions
Many verbs come with a fixed preposition: Сѐ зависи од времето. (Everything depends on the weather.) Таа се грижи за баба си. (She takes care of her grandmother.)
How It Works
Common verbs and their prepositions.
- од: зависи од (depend on), се плаши од (be afraid of)
- за: се грижи за (take care of), зборува за (talk about)
- на: се сеќава на (remember), мисли на (think of), се радува на (be happy about)
- со: се занимава со (work in, be busy with), се согласува со (agree with), разговара со (talk with)
- во: верува во (believe in), учествува во (take part in)
Keep се. Many of these verbs also need се: се грижам, се сеќаваш, се занимава.
Pronouns and questions. After the preposition, use a full pronoun: Зависи од тебе. Мислам на тебе. See full pronouns. In a question, the preposition comes first: Од што зависи? Со што се занимаваш? (What do you do?)
A whole clause. To attach a clause, you can put тоа after the preposition: Зависи од тоа дали ќе врне. (It depends on whether it rains.) As a short answer, Зависи. means "It depends."
No preposition. Some verbs take a plain object where English uses a preposition: слуша (listen to), бара (look for), чека (wait for): Те чекам пред киното. (I'm waiting for you in front of the cinema.)
Мисли. Мисли changes meaning with its preposition: мисли на (think of someone), мисли за (have an opinion about). See saying what you think.
