ми е студено / ми е жал
Feelings with a To-Me Pronoun
Macedonian says "to me it is cold" rather than "I am cold": Ми е студено. · Дали ти е топло?
How It Works
Common feelings.
- Ми е студено / топло / жешко. — I'm cold / warm / hot.
- Ми е лошо. — I feel sick.
- Ми е досадно. — I'm bored.
- Ми е тешко. — It's hard for me.
- Ми е жал. — I'm sorry.
- Ми е драго. — I'm glad. Драго ми е! also means Nice to meet you!
Person and time. Only the pronoun changes for the person: Дали ти е студено? · Му е лошо. · Ни е досадно. The verb stays in the it form: беше for the past and ќе биде for the future, never person forms such as сум or бев: Ми беше студено. · Ќе ти биде топло.
Weather or feeling? Студено е describes the weather or a room (see врне; студено е). Adding the pronoun makes it a personal feeling: Ми е студено.
Word order. Both orders are common: Ми е жал and Жал ми е. When the feeling word comes first, the pronoun and е follow it.
Naming the person. Keep the short pronoun: На мајка ми ѝ е лошо. · Мене ми е студено, а тебе?
Shame and fear. These two are often said with the object pronoun: Срам ме е. (I'm ashamed.) · Ме е страв. (I'm scared.) You will also hear Страв ми е. To give the reason for a feeling, add што: see драго ми е што.

Common Mistakes
Using сум the way English uses "I am".
Јас сум студено.Ми е студено.Feelings like this are said as "it is cold to me". The person is the pronoun ми, and the verb is е.
Giving the past verb the person's ending.
Ми бев студено.Ми беше студено.The person is shown only by ми, so the verb stays in the it form: беше, not бев.
