помага / верува
Verbs with To-Someone Objects
Where English says help him, Macedonian says help to him: Му помагам. · Ѝ се јавив на Ана. (I called Ana.)
How It Works
The verbs.
- помага: Ќе ти помогнам. (I'll help you.)
- верува: Не ти верувам. (I don't believe you.) Believing in someone uses во: Верувам во тебе.
- се јавува / се јави: Ќе ти се јавам вечерва. (I'll call you tonight.) The to-someone pronoun comes before се.
- честита: Му го честитав роденденот. (I wished him a happy birthday.) The occasion is the direct object and the person is the to-someone object. Ти честитам! means Congratulations!
- благодари: Ти благодарам. (Thank you.) See благодарам; ве молам; извинете.
- завидува: Ѝ завидувам. (I envy her.)
Naming the person. Put на before the person and keep the short pronoun: Му помагам на брат ми. · Ѝ се јавив на Ана. This is the pattern from на + лице за индиректен објект.
English can mislead. Because English says help him and call her, learners reach for the object pronouns го and ја from кратки заменки: ме; те; го; ја; нѐ; ве; ги. With these verbs, use му and ѝ from кратки заменки: ми; ти; му; ѝ; ни; ви; им.
Each other. For a shared action, these verbs use си: Си помагаат еден на друг. (see се за взаемност; еден со друг).
